Service agreement between the Library and its users

The Library undertakes to:

- Provide access to globally available academic information.
- Provide access to all recommended text books (if commercially available, and with co-operation from lecturers).
- Ensure a balanced collection of information sources within financial constraints.
- Assess your information needs and provide group training sessions in the information literacy skills required to use our services correctly.
- Provide the information or feedback on requests within two working days of receiving a written request.
- Have an information specialist available for appointments.


What the Library expects from you:

Undergraduate Students

We request you to:

- Abide by the rules and keep your student card with you at all times.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and be co-responsible for the conservation and maintenance of the collection, infrastructure and physical facilities
- Buy the prescribed books.
- Be computer literate.
- Make yourself available for training in information literacy.


Postgraduate Students

We request you to:

- Abide by the rules and keep your student card with you at all times.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and be co-responsible for the conservation and maintenance of the collection, infrastructure and physical facilities
- Buy the prescribed books.
- Be computer literate.
- Make yourself available for training in information literacy.
- Make appointments with the relevant information specialist if in need of his/ her services.
- Collect any interlending requests within 14 days of notification.


Teaching and Research Staff

We request you to:

- Be co-responsible for the creation of a balanced and comprehensive subject collection.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in the Library, and continuously and accurately pass on this information to your department and students.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct.
- Make available the information on prescribed and recommended books as requested.
- Provide the information needs and student numbers for assignments one month in advance to enable the information specialists to make copies, to obtain the necessary information timeously and to create relevant products.
- Arrange a training session for the postgraduate and distance students during the first contact session.
