Membership & Registration (incl. forms)

To be able to fully benefit from all the services, facilities and resources offered by the library, you need to be a registered client. To access our electronic resources you will be prompted for your student/staff number and a password.
Important: Access to library services are valid until completion of studies.

UP First year students After registration at the university has been finalised, you will automatically be registered at the Library after 24 hours.

Other UP undergraduate students After registration at the university has been finalised, you will automatically be registered at the Library after 24 hours.

Postgraduate Students After registration at the university has been finalised, you will automatically be registered at the Library after 24 hours.

New UP Staff When the appointment at UP is finalized, the library membership will be activated within 24 hours.

Permanent and retired UP Staff Library membership will be renewed annually for staff and on request for retired staff.
Visiting lecturers, researchers & post doc fellows) When the appointment at UP is finalized, the library membership will be activated within 24 hours.

Prospective Students Prospective students register with the relevant Faculty at the UP. This entitles the student to use all resources and facilities of the UP Library Services.

UP Alumni As a registered member of the TuksAlumni Alma Mater Fund library access is one of the benefits. See borrowing privileges
For further information or to register as a member of the TuksAlumni Alma Mater Fund, please contact the TuksAlumni office at tel (012) 420-3086.
To register as a library member present your Alumni card. A annual R50 registration fee is payable.
 
Other External Users
Register according to agreement. Activate membership at the Circulation Desk.
To apply for membership, ensure where applicable, that the letter of recommendation from your institution was mailed to mart.muller@up.ac.za. On arrival a copy of ID / passport will be required and a registration form needs to be completed.
Users may attend a short training session on the use of the library services. See borrowing privileges.
Additional cost for an admission card is R50. It will only be ready for pickup after 24 hours.

Clients from other SA Higher Education Institutions

CHELSA
Masters, PhD students and lecturers from other South African Higher Education Institutions can register with the library, provided that they have a letter of recommendation from their home institution library.

ARC / Embassies ARC / Embassy members, please e-mail the letter of introduction and a copy of ID / passport to mart.muller@up.ac.za.
Users for 6 or 12 months DUE TO SECURITY REGULATIONS, EXTERNAL PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED ON CAMPUS WITHOUT PERMISSION.

International students International students with no link to a UP Dept - Will be treated as Day visitors.
International students with a link to a UP Department The UP Department arranges for a contractors card. No borrowing privileges, only library access.

People with no assosiation with a UP Dept, may use the Library Services. Day visitor's fee is R70 per day, payable in the library. ID must be available and a temporary card, valid for the day, will be issued that should be returned by the end of the day.
