Collections at the Education Library

    Apparatus Collection
The Apparatus Collection is located on Level 1 in the northern wing of the library and consists of educational games, flashcards and hand puppets etc. Shelf numbers in this collection start with the abbreviation APP, e.g. APP 370 ROSE.
 
    Books for Youth
The Youth collection consists of books for children K12 and older and is located on Level 1 in the northern wing of the library. The shelf numbers for these books are preceded by a K, e.g. K 839 VELS.
 
    Children's Books
This collection consists of books for children younger than K12 and is located on Level 1 in the northern wing of the library. Shelf numbers in this collection start with the abbreviation J, e.g. J 823 SMITH.
 
    CD Collection
The library has a variety of music CDs and multimedia CD ROMs which are kept at the circulation desk. The CDs can be borrowed for one week periods. The shelf numbers for music CDs are preceded by EDUCD, and the shelf numbers for multimedia CDs are preceded by EDUEM.
 
    HIV/AIDS and Education Collection

This collection consists of documents, books and pamphlets focusing on HIV/AIDS and Education:

  • Books on HIV/AIDS and Education can be searched via the  library catalogue under keyword search using the terms "HIV and AIDS and Education".

  • The pamphlet collection is available on Level 1 of the Groenkloof Library, and can be searched via the Library catalogue using the terms "HIV and AIDS and Education".   The shelf numbers in this collection are preceded by the code EDUHV.
 
    Maps
The library has a variety of maps that can be used during educational practice sessions. These maps are located on Level 1 in the northern wing of the library. The classification numbers for maps are preceded by the code Kt.
 
    Newspapers
The library subscribes to the Pretoria News, Sowetan and the Beeld. To search for archival newspaper articles from any South African newspaper, consult the SAMedia database.
 
    Poster/ Picture Collection
The library has a wide range of posters and pictures which can be used during Education Practice. This collection is housed on Level 1 in the northern wing of the library and is indexed according to Dewey Decimal classification numbers. The classification numbers are preceded by the code Pr or EDUPR.
 
    Reference Collection
This collection consists of dictionaries, subject dictionaries, encyclopedias and other reference sources. The reference collection is situated on Level 1 on the lower shelves and is arranged according to Dewey Decimal classification numbers with the codes EDUN or R preceding the numbers.  Reference sources can only be used in the library and are not issued.
 
    Reserved/Study Collection
The reserved/study collection consists of books that have been reserved for students by lecturers for usage in the library. The shelf numbers of the books are preceded by the code EDUGV. Reserved books are kept at the circulation counter.
 
    Transparency Collection
The transparency collection consists of educational transparencies covering all subject areas. This collection can be used for education practice sessions and is housed on Level 1 in the south wing of the library. The shelf numbers in this collection is preceded by the code EDUTR.
 
    Video/DVD Collection
The library has approximately 1200 videos which are arranged according to Dewey Decimal classification numbers with the code Vd or EDUAVV preceding the shelf numbers. The shelf numbers for DVDs are EDUDVD.
