Procedure for requesting items from branch libraries or other SA libraries via SACat (Sabinet)

1. To be able to request items online from other SA libraries, you need to be registered as an Interlending user. Once registered, you can proceed. Click here to register online.
2. Important: Please check the following for availability before you proceed with your request
  -  Library catalogue
  -  Electronic journals A-Z list
  -  Google
  -  Google Scholar
3. Go to Request Online.
4. Use the relevant field to insert the author, title, keywords or ISBN for books and journal title, keywords or ISSN for journal articles and click the search button.
5. Decide which item you want to request, and click on the red text.
6. Click on Request this item. Do not request items available in your own library collection
7. Type in your own Interlending UserID and Password (available from your Interlending Specialist), eg:
User ID 2840-9999999 (your UP staff/student number: 7 or 8 digits)
Password 2840+9999 (4 digits as allocated by Sabinet, also available from your Interlending Specialist)
8. The selected record has been transfered to the Interlending request form
9. Complete need by date (yyyymmdd) : 1 month from date requested please. The requested period is to ensure your request stays active.
10. Tick copyright compliance check box.
11. If an article is requested, change the following:
Complete author, title, date, volume, issue, pages, etc. of the article
Use the NOTE field to communicate with interlending staff, e.g. a book is on loan etc.
12. Submit your request by Clicking on the Request button. Make sure you have a Request ID after submitting. Close the window.
13. To request another item, click return to search results, start a new search, then search the new item.

It is recommended that you register as an Interlending user and Request Online via the Sabinet Request System.
