About the book:

The holding of democratic elections on 27 April and the inauguration of the President on 10 May 1994, heralded the arrival of a new era in our country.

The coming into being of a new nation necessitated the adoption of symbols which give expression, not only to the advent of the new order but which also epitomise our national dignity, nation building, reconciliation and reconstruction.

The National Anthems, 'Nkosi Sikeleli' iAfrika' and 'The Call of South Africa', The National Coat of Arms and the National Flag, are a manifestations of the desire to achieve national consensus.
